CBS Radio News at 5 pm Eastern Time had an item about a new poll showing Harris and Trump about even in battleground states and Harris having a slight lead nationally. This is very good news, since a short time ago we were trailing. What is not good news is that Trump is leading on the border issue and he enjoys a big lead, the poll says, with people who think they would be better off financially under him.
Personally, I am reading and hearing nothing to speak of about border security except from "Republican" politicians who think they own the issue. Personally, I am not convinced border security is a big problem for Harris.
To my way of thinking, Democrats ought to concentrate heavily on taking the economic issue away from Trump. My fellow unspeakably old Democrats may remember Republican strategist Karl Rove who had a knack of taking an opponent's positive quality and turning it into a negative. We need to be doing the same. Americans worry about runaway inflation. Trump's juvenile attraction to tariffs could and probably would lead to a return to high inflation.
