Influential tech investor and Trump adviser Marc Andreessen recently said universities will pay the price for promoting diversity and allegedly discriminating against supporters of President Donald Trump, according to messages he sent to a group chat with White House officials and technology leaders reviewed byThe Washington Post.
The billionaires messages also cited Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University, a respected institution at the heart of Silicon Valley that has incubated tech companies such as Google. Andreessen and his wife have donated millions of dollars to the school.
I view Stanford and MIT as mainly political lobbying operations fighting American innovation at this point, Andreessen wrote in screenshots of messages sent May 3 and reviewed by The Post.
The investor described a counterattack against universities in his messages and called for the National Science Foundation, a federal research funding agency, to receive the bureaucratic death penalty.
Andreessen co-founded one of Silicon Valleys most prominent venture capital firms, Andreessen Horowitz, which President Donald Trumps candidacy last year. While Elon Musk was the most visible tech mogul in Trumps orbit until he , Andreessen has quietly helped shape the administrations .
The tech investor is known for making , including to his 1.8 million followers on X, and has criticized universities and government agencies in media appearances, but his comments in the private chat went beyond his previous statements.
In addition to criticizing Stanford and MIT, Andreessen sent a rapid-fire series of messages, according to the screenshots and two members of the chat, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Larry Rubin llama a fortalecer alianza Mxico-EU

Trumps economic adviser says latest tariffs are real unless deals improve
Letters from an American July 12, 2025 Heather Cox Richardson
Heather Cox RichardsonOn July 5, the day after the Texas floods hit, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) received 3,027 calls from survivors and answered 3,018 of them, about 99.7%, according to Maxine Joselow of the New York Times. But that day, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem did not renew the contracts for four call center companies that answered those calls. The staff at the centers were fired. The next day, July 6, FEMA received 2,363 calls and answered 846, or about 35.8%. On Monday, July 7, FEMA received 16,419 calls and answered 2,613, around 15.9%.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security said: When a natural disaster strikes, phone calls surge, and wait times can subsequently increase. Despite this expected influx, FEMAs disaster call center responded to every caller swiftly and efficiently, ensuring no one was left without assistance.
Marcy Wheeler of EmptyWheel notes that one reason Noem has been cutting so ferociously at FEMA is because she has run through the money Congress allocated for HHS with her single-minded focus on immigration.
In May, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) called out Noems expenditure of $200 million on an ad campaign pushing Trumps agenda and $21 million to transport about 400 migrants to Guantanamo Bay only to have many of them transferred back out. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) told Noem: You are spending like you dont have a budget. Youre on track to trigger the Anti-Deficiency Act. That means you are going to spend more money than you have been allocated by Congress. This is a rare occurrence, and it is wildly illegal. Your agency will be broke by July, over two months before the end of the fiscal year. You may not think that Congress has provided enough money to ICE Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but the Constitution and the federal law does not allow you to spend more money than youve been given, or to invent money. And this obsession with spending at the borderhas left the country unprotected elsewhere.

When key provisions in Trumps big, beautiful bill take effect CNN Politics
Some of the measures are effective immediately, while others dont kick in for several years notably, after the 2026 midterm elections.

Published 7:00 AM EDT, Sat July 12, 2025President signed his landmark tax and spending cuts bill into law , notching the first major legislative achievement of his second term.
Congressional Republicans approved the presidents on an ambitious timeline over the blanket opposition of Democrats, as well as over its impact to the federal deficit and certain government programs.
Among its myriad provisions, the package makes permanent the 2017 tax cuts that were set to expire at years end and beefs up funding for defense, border control and immigration enforcement. It also enacts a historic reshaping of the nations safety net, particularly imposing and food stamps.
Some of the measures take effect this year for instance, the expiration of the electric vehicles tax credit and the temporary elimination of taxes on tips and overtime work. Other provisions dont kick in for several years, notably, after the 2026 midterm elections.

Nearly everyone opposes Trumps plan to kill space traffic control program Ars Technica

Credit: Kaitlin Castillo / US Space ForceThe Trump administrations plan to gut the Office of Space Commerce and cancel the governments first civilian-run space traffic control program is gaining plenty of detractors.
Earlier this week, seven space industry trade groups representing more than 450 companies sent letters to House and Senate leaders urging them to counter the White Houses proposal. A spokesperson for the militarys Space Operations Command, which currently has overall responsibility for space traffic management, said it will continue to advocate for a civilian organization to take over the Space Forces role as orbital traffic cop.
Giveth and taketh away
The White Houses budget request submitted to Congress for fiscal year 2026 would slash the Office of Space Commerces budget from $65 million to $10 million and eliminate funding for the Traffic Coordination System for Space (TraCSS). The TraCSS program was established in the Department of Commerce after as president to reform how the government supervises the movements of satellites and space debris in orbit.
The Office of Space Commerce, part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, has been around since the 1980s as a licensing agency for remote sensing and Earth observation satellites.
TraCSS is designed as a cloud-based system to serve as a nerve center for collecting satellite tracking data from spacecraft owners and a network of government and commercial telescopes and radars. The space traffic control network then uses the information to provide alerts of potential in-space collisions to satellite operators. This is becoming more important as thousands more satellites head to space each year.
Industry trade groups are lobbying Congress to reverse the Trump administrations proposal and restore the Office of Space Commerces (OSCs) budget to this years level of $65 million.
One of OSCs most important functions is to provide space traffic coordination support to US satellite operators, similar to the Federal Aviation Administrations role in air traffic control for the US airline industry, seven trade groups wrote in joint letters to Congress.
The trade organizations count the largest Western commercial satellite operators among their members: SpaceX, Amazon, Eutelsat OneWeb, Planet Labs, Iridium, SES, Intelsat, and Spire. These are the companies with the most at stake in the debate over the future of space traffic coordination. Industry sources told Ars that some companies are concerned a catastrophic collision in low-Earth orbit might trigger a wave of burdensome regulations, an outcome they would like to avoid.
