Trump doesn't militarily bend Iran and now hes raising the stakes: an economic war is triggered that also targets Chinese companies cooperating with Tehran. Anger from Xi: "We will defend our national interests."

Facing the meager results of the military campaign against Iran, Donald Trump is changing strategy and playing the card of economic warfare to bend the regime of Mojtaba Khamenei. The U.S. administration has imposed sanctions on Tehran and also on several companies that cooperate with the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to Bloomberg, a dozen companies based in China and Hong Kong are among those targeted.

A series of sanctions whose effectiveness is not clear, according to the American portal, may not be particularly impactful given that the companies targeted are private and have limited exposure to the United States. As leaked, these measures have primarily aimed at a network of technology subcontractors centered on Sweet Ocean Industrial, based in Hong Kong, which, according to the U.S. Treasury Department, would have acted as an "intermediary" in acquiring equipment destined for the Malek Ashtar University of Technology in Iran, a research institute linked to the defense sector. Three people residing in China who coordinated these subcontracting activities through the network were also targeted, allowing various products, especially high-tech ones, to reach Tehran.

In response to Trumps moves, Xi Jinping's China has vehemently protested, stating its intention to take all necessary measures to protect its interests. As stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, we have repeatedly declared that we firmly oppose unilateral illegal sanctions. The spokesperson also harshly criticized the policies of economic warfare and maximum pressure against the Iranian regime, arguing that they do not contribute to solving problems but risk fueling them further.

Trump administration threatens economic D-Day on countries working with Iran

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's threat to unleash an "economic D-Day" against Iran risks setting the U.S. on a collision course with China, its main trading partner but only if Bessent actually follows through.

Economic Attack, Trumps plan against the Iranian regime.

The United States Treasury Department, at the direction of President Donald Trump, has launched Operation Economic Outcast, an unprecedented economic campaign conducted with the involvement of multiple federal departments, against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its international backers. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent compared the initiative to the Normandy landings, calling it the beginning of an "economic attack" aimed at severing Irans global financial connections under the regime in Tehran. Bessent warned that anyone cooperating with the United States would benefit, while those remaining tied to Iran would share the regime's isolation.

OBJECTIVES The operation aims to systematically disrupt the economic channels supporting the Iranian regime and the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), defined by the Treasury as the principal state sponsor of terrorism. Washington claims to have mapped the networks, facilitators, and financial channels used by Iran to smuggle oil, evade sanctions, and finance terrorism, presenting the regime with a clear alternative: severe global isolation or a path to reintegration into the world economy.

PRESSURE ON THIRD COUNTRIES Delegations from the Treasury, State, and Defense departments are questioning international counterparts to demand an immediate cessation of activities linked to Iran identified by U.S. intelligence, assigning each country a precise deadline to comply. In case of non-compliance, the Treasury will take action directly. The risk of secondary sanctions is also being expanded for those continuing to do business with Tehran, with an announcement promising to accelerate the pace of counteraction measures.

Fired after some social media posts about Kirk, the WP will have to reinstate her.

AGI - The Washington Post will reinstate editorialist Karen Attiah, who was fired for social media posts published after the killing of ultraconservative influencer Charlie Kirk, and pay her back wages. An arbitrator ruled that the newspaper did not have a "valid and sufficient cause" for her dismissal.

Kirk, a supporter of Donald Trump, was killed on September 10 by a gunshot to the neck during a debate on a university campus in Utah. The murder had caused strong political tension in the United States and threats of repression against the radical left from the president.

Attiah, a Post editorialist and professor at Columbia University, had written that she did not want to feign sadness over the assassination and had retweeted racist statements attributed to Kirk towards Black women. The newspaper then fired her, accusing her of "serious inappropriate conduct" and violating its internal social media policy.

The journalist, who had worked at the Washington Post for eleven years, welcomed the decision, stating on X that she had been forced to leave for saying the truth. At the time of her dismissal, she recalled being the last full-time Black editorialist at the newspaper. The Washington Post said it respected the arbitration process, without further comment.
