Palantir is a US tech company that makes tools and software used for surveillance and AI warfare. It is part of a growing global push by Big Tech to profit by controlling public services. First they offer very affordable data-management systems, to win contracts and make us dependent. Then they can inflate their prices and mine and sell our data to support anti-democratic forces.
Despite its despicable record, the company has been given at least 35 UK public sector contracts, ranging from the NHS to policing and local government. These not only help the company to whitewash its record and boost its profits but also give it access to highly sensitive information. Technical dependence on a company whose leadership has expressed anti-democratic views and aligned with Trumps American nationalist movement is a strategic risk to UK democracy.
And with Palantirs ambitions to dominate public services worldwide, supported by Trumps weaponisation of trade globally to bully countries to favour US corporations, the people of the global South can expect to be among Palantirs future victimswith far less chance of protecting themselves.
But we can fight back. NHS trusts are already resisting the rollout of Palantirs technology, and workers and campaigners are lobbying to remove it across government departments. Ultimately, we need safeguards to stop companies with dangerous records on human rights from winning public sector contracts.
And we dont have to put up with Palantir in our NHS any longer. Next February, a break clause comes up, allowing the UK to end the contract. The government has to put it to Parliament by early December. And we need maximum public pressure on them now to do that!

Mxico y Estados Unidos mantienen abiertas las negociaciones para reducir los aranceles que afectan a las exportaciones mexicanas de vehculos, acero y aluminio, pero todava no alcanzan un acuerdo definitivo, confirm la presidente Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo este martes 20 de octubre.
Las conversaciones registran avances, aunque persisten diferencias sobre las condiciones comerciales que plantea Washington. El gobierno federal busca disminuir al mximo los gravmenes y evitar nuevas medidas que perjudiquen a la industria, el empleo y la economa nacional.
Las declaraciones de Sheinbaum se produjeron despus de que el presidente estadounidense, Donald Trump, afirmara un da antes que ambos pases estaban cerca de concretar un acuerdo comercial.
Mxico busca reducir los aranceles a vehculos, acero y aluminio
Durante Sheinbaum sostuvo que el objetivo de Mxico es conseguir mejores condiciones para sus exportaciones y resolver los puntos pendientes sin aceptar compromisos contrarios a las leyes nacionales.
Estamos muy cerca, hay algunos temas. Cul es nuestro objetivo Reducir al mximo los aranceles que tenemos, afirm al explicar el estado de las conversaciones con las autoridades estadounidenses.
La presidente precis que las negociaciones continan porque ambos gobiernos mantienen desacuerdos sobre determinadas propuestas. Tambin seal que ha observado disposicin de los representantes comerciales de Estados Unidos para buscar una salida negociada.
Los sectores automotriz, acerero y del aluminio figuran entre los principales asuntos pendientes. Los aranceles estadounidenses sobre estos productos han generado presin sobre las condiciones de acceso al mercado de ese pas, pese a la vigencia del Tratado entre Mxico, Estados Unidos y Canad (T-MEC).
Sheinbaum descarta comprometer el empleo y la economa nacional
La mandataria afirm que cualquier entendimiento deber beneficiar a Mxico y respetar el marco constitucional. Rechaz aceptar condiciones que puedan perjudicar la actividad econmica o reducir las fuentes de trabajo.
No podemos negociar, primero, nada que est fuera de nuestra Constitucin, de nuestras leyes y, segundo, algo que sepamos que va a afectar a la economa nacional o al nmero de empleos, advirti.
La postura mexicana busca que una eventual reduccin de los gravmenes se traduzca en mejores condiciones para los exportadores nacionales, sin comprometer la soberana ni las decisiones internas del pas.
Aunque Trump present el posible acuerdo como un avance en la relacin comercial bilateral, Sheinbaum evit anticipar sus trminos o asegurar que las diferencias estn resueltas.
Las negociaciones continan sin fecha para un acuerdo definitivo
Al ser cuestionada sobre el porcentaje de avance de las conversaciones, la presidente seal que es difcil establecer una cifra, pues todava existen asuntos en los que ambos gobiernos no coinciden.
Todava no llegamos al acuerdo final, pero se ha avanzado bastante, explic.
La falta de una fecha confirmada mantiene la atencin sobre las prximas decisiones de los equipos comerciales de ambos pases. Para Mxico, el resultado ser relevante por el impacto de los aranceles en las exportaciones manufactureras y en las cadenas de produccin vinculadas con el mercado estadounidense.
Las conversaciones tambin se desarrollan en el contexto de la relacin comercial regulada por el T-MEC, que vincula a Mxico, Estados Unidos y Canad.
Mxico insiste en negociar sin subordinacin
Sheinbaum sostuvo que las diferencias en materia comercial no impiden mantener la coordinacin bilateral en seguridad y otros asuntos de inters comn.
La mandataria reiter que la defensa de los mexicanos que viven en Estados Unidos, la economa nacional y el empleo forman parte de los criterios que guan la posicin mexicana.
Afirm que su gobierno buscar acuerdos bajo principios de soberana, integridad territorial, confianza mutua y coordinacin sin subordinacin.
Por ahora, el resultado de las conversaciones depender de que ambos gobiernos resuelvan los puntos pendientes sobre los aranceles. Mientras Trump expresa confianza en un cierre prximo, Mxico mantiene como objetivo reducir las barreras comerciales sin aceptar condiciones que afecten sus intereses nacionales. sn
