I have noticed many people I follow on have begun to migrate over to , which is powered by the (also known as AT Protocol or Atmosphere).
It appears we lost Ben Stiller to the Atmosphere as he recently stitched his final Thread (pun intended).

Because has yet to launch a verification system, Ben Stiller decided to use his custom domain so that you know it is him: (note: the subdomain does not lead anywhere, something his tech folks should fix).
In the past, I have (and will continue to be) highly critical of Bluesky, which claims to be decentralized but realistically flirts with decentralization.
For the technically inclined, (one of the founders) has a lengthy post about Bluesky, but this part sums up my feelings perfectly:
Let us open with a framing. Decentralization is the result of a system that diffuses power throughout its structure, so that no node holds particular power at the center. Federation, as has been used as a technical term since the emergence of the Fediverse (which presently is mostly associated with ActivityPub, though I would argue XMPP and email are also federated), is a technical approach to communication architecture which achieves decentralization by many independent nodes cooperating and communicating to be a unified whole, with no node holding more power than the responsibility or communication of its parts.
Under these definitions, Bluesky and ATProto are not meaningfully decentralized, and are not federated either. However, this is not to say that Bluesky is not achieving something useful while Bluesky is not building what is presently a decentralized Twitter, it is building an excellent replacement for Twitter, and Blueskys main deliverable goal is something else instead: a Twitter replacement, with the possibility of credible exit. ()
One of the reasons I enjoy ActivityPub is that the setup cost is far less expensive than Atmospheres (it is also battle-tested and truly decentralized).
However, I recently noticed some of my political progressive colleagues (I am libertarian, for what it is worth) are abandoning Threads after discovering that the owner of ZUCKED UP by kissing the ring of the Pumpkin King .
I am not surprised that embraced , as the Democrats have more or less & mega corporations as of late.
I am surprised by folks I follow in the Fediverse (or Threads) migrating from Meta over toBluesky.
Since I desire to maintain contact with them, I reactivated my Bluesky accountalbeit with a twist.

I also configured all of my WordPress sites via to post on my Bluesky profile. Thanks to , most of my Fediverse accounts will automatically cross-post to Bluesky.
I will still post mostly on my account (), and to avoid going insane, I will use to help manage my interactions across Mastodon, Threads, and Bluesky.
However, I will still advocate for the FediverseActivityPub styledue to the simple fact that I am a believer in decentralized social media.
