"Stiamo sfruttando una fonte unica di vantaggio americano, che i nostri avversari non possiedono: i nostri innovatori, i nostri leader di alto livello e i nostri esperti di tecnologia", ha affermato Hegseth. Musk sar co-leader del Project Meridian insieme a Palmer Luckey, 34enne co-fondatore dell'azienda di tecnologie per la difesa Anduril Industries, e a Newt Gingrich, 83enne repubblicano ed ex presidente della Camera dei Rappresentanti. Musk aveva sostenuto Trump favorendone il ritorno alla Casa Bianca, ma in seguito i due avevano avuto un acceso scontro pubblico riguardo alla legislazione sulla spesa pubblica voluta dal presidente. Successivamente, ha ripreso a finanziare cause repubblicane, effettuando donazioni multimilionarie a singoli candidati e a gruppi politici conservatori.

Hegseth ha dichiarato di aver disposto che i risultati del Project Meridian vengano completati e presentati entro 120 giorni.

Elon Musk will return to providing official counsel to the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, co-leading what the Pentagon has defined as a study initiative on the future of war. Musk previously held the role of head of the Office of Government Efficiency (Doge) before leaving the position in May 2025, following a public dispute with Trump.
Musk will be co-leader of the Pentagons new project.
During a speech at the Quantico military base, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth stated that the "Project Meridian" will be an initiative led by America's best minds to study the future of war. We are leveraging a unique American advantage that our adversaries do not possess: our innovators, our top leaders, and our technology experts, Hegseth said. Musk will be co-leader of Project Meridian alongside Palmer Luckey, a 34-year-old co-founder of defense technology company Anduril Industries, and Newt Gingrich, an 83-year-old Republican and former Speaker of the House. Musk had supported Trump, advocating for his return to the White House, but subsequently the two had a heated public clash regarding the presidents proposed spending legislation. He later resumed funding Republicans, making multi-million dollar donations to individual candidates and conservative political groups.
Hegseth explained that the project's goal is to look to the future creatively and identify the domains we must master and the capabilities we must develop. The project will include leaders from the private sector selected personally and experts from innovation ecosystems, academia, and public policy. Hegseth stated that he had directed that the results of Project Meridian be completed and presented within 120 days.
